jump by Chris Armstrong met the ball and his header went over and

the season, Spurs went to White Hart Lane and went ahead ten minutes
before half time, when a long pass forward to Ronnie Rosenthal, wide
left just outside the box, pulled the ball back to substitute Kevin

Sheringham who was unmarked to head past goalkeeper Eike Immel.

Having just suffered
defeat in the FA Cup semi-final, Spurs got straight back into the
business of winning League points with a 2-1 win over City, in a
game that had been postponed from 21st January, because of heavy
rainfall in the morning prior to the game leading to a 2.00 p.m.
postponement.
Uwe Rosler gave Tottenham a 49th
minute shock with a goal put City ahead, but David Howells got
Tottenham level four minutes later. It was left to Jurgen Klinsmann
to notch the winner with just four minutes remaining.

left before half-time, Nayim extended the lead to 2-0, but Mike

Although hooligans
marred this FA Cup Sixth round match, the game itself was a fine
one, with Nayim scoring a hat-trick for Tottenham.
Mike Sheron headed in a Terry
Phelan cross after just three minutes to give the early advantage to
City, but Nayim equalised when he hit a low half volley through a
forest of legs in the box from 20 yards, after a long throw had been
headed out to him. Right on half-time, Tottenham took the lead when
Paul Allen played the ball in from the left wing to Sedgley and he
drove a shot past Tony Coton.
Into the second period, Spurs work
a throw-in on the right through Dean Austin to Sheringham, who's
shot crashes back off the foot of a post. It drops in the middle of
the box, where Nayim got the ball stuck under his foot but reacted
quickly to put Tottenham 3-1 up. The midfielder completed his
hat-trick when Paul Allen found Nayim near the penalty spot after a
good run down the right wing. He stopped the ball, picked his spot
and curled it in around Coton. Man. City fans invaded the pitch at
4-1, with Police horses also getting on the grass, hoping to get the
game abandoned, but the match ended with a very good win for Spurs,
who went on to the semi-final. The best goal of the match was
scored by Terry Phelan, who slalomed through the Tottenham side and
finished at the end of a 50 yard run.
Teddy Sheringham also missed a
penalty, probably because he was informed by City keeper Coton that
he wouldn't get out alive if he scored !!

A single goal decided
this League Cup Fourth Round encounter at Maine Road.
With just 14 minutes on the clock,
Erik Thorstvedt launched a big kick downfield and Vinny Samways
latched onto Nicky Barmby's flicked header on and smashed a low shot
into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box.
Thorsvedt then turned goal-stopper, with a succession of saves from
Simpson, White, Sheron and Quinn's diving header.
When Sheringham missed Paul
Allen's cross from the right wing, Barmby snuck in behind and forced
a good save from Coton, while Teddy and Samways also tested the City
custodian. However, both goals stayed intact and Tottenham
progressed by the narrowest of margins.

coinciding with a visit to the Lane of Manchester City was when
37,539 spectators stood in pouring rain to pay their respects to the
Busby Babes who had died in a plane crash at Munich two days
before.
Joe Hayes gave City a lead after
38 minutes, but Spurs hit back with a second half surge. Johnny
Harmer had a penalty saved by Bert Trautmann and minutes later
Brooks slid home the ball after the keeper had stopped Smith's
fierce drive. Then came a Bobby Smith hat-trick to put Spurs out of
reach.
Smith even set up the fifth goal
for George Robb four minutes from the end of the game to cap a fine
solo performance.

controversial goal . Ernie Toseland's goal was ruled out and a

Barber punched his own full-back Mick Ridley, who had to leave the
field. Tottenham capitalised on their numerical advantage, as

level. Billy Cook converted Andy Thompson's cross in the 75th
minute to give Tottenham what looked like a winning lead, but City

A FA Cup trip to City
proved another fruitless journey for Tottenham, as goals from Fred
Howard and Tommy Browell knocked Spurs out of the competition,

The scorers from Good
Friday were on the mark again to give City the double over Spurs
this Easter.
With Tottenham unable to breach
the City defence this time, Billy Jones and Joe Dorsett were both
scorers in the 2-0 win. This win kick-started a revival of seven
wins in their last eight games to lift them from the bottom of the
table to safety.

at Hyde Road was won by the home side. Billy "Lot" Jones and Joe
Dorsett did the damage and although Ernie Newman got one back for
