Chick King, Tottenham – Now in Oils !

Scenes of Spurs fans queueing outside what has become an iconic fast food outlet in Tottenham are a familiar sight on matchdays. Chick-King may look like thousands of other fried chicken and chips takeaways, but the twin brothers who own and run it make it special. Their warm welcome and consistent quality of service have made it the perfect pre-match pit stop for countless fans over the years.

It also struck me as the perfect subject for an oil painting – and it seems The British Art Prize 2025 judges agreed! My painting has been selected as one of 50 works from 2,900 entries to be exhibited at the OXO Gallery in central London from 26–30 November 2025.

There’s also a People’s Choice Award, and it would be amazing to see Chick-King, Tottenham High Road, put firmly on the map. A win would mean features in magazines and press outlets — a great way to celebrate this cult local eatery.

???? VOTE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD (Voting closes 7 November).

I remember going to Chick-King over 20 years ago, and the brothers don’t look any different now! Providing friendly service must be good for aging. I recently took my painting to show them before the Spurs v Copenhagen Champions League match, and they were genuinely delighted to see their shop captured in oils. Hopefully this painting will help the legacy of this much-loved Tottenham institution live on for generations.

Kind regards,
Rodney
