Newcastle United v Spurs Reserves Match Reports

Tottenham Under-21s opening match of the 2026-2027 season ended 3-1 in their favour, as they travelled to Whitley Park to play Newcastle United.

The home side’s midfielder Neave was played through and Sam Archer did very well to get something on the effort to take the ball over the crossbar with 45 seconds gone, but when Sanusi fed Vakhtang Salia, who took a shot on the turn that went low into the bottom corner of the net to put Spurs behind after just eight minutes of the new season.

After 15 minutes, Newcastle should have doubled their lead when Neave managed to somehow get the ball over the bar from very close to goal.  That gave Tottenham the impetus to get their game together and with Tyrese Hall dominating in midfield, he missed by inched with a shot from an angle and then Harry Byrne produced a curling shot that brought a good save from the Magpies keeper Mair.  The pressure eventually told and in the 36th minute Spurs won the ball in mid-pitch, moving it through Reiss Elliott-Parris to ELlis Lehane in the penalty area.  The ball was returned to the striker, who smashed a shot across the keeper to make it 1-1.
With the half-time me whistle approaching Damola Ajayi had a good chance that he put over the top. 

Stating on top of the play, Tottenham went 2-1 ahead in the 67th minute moving the ball along the 18 yard line from right to left and when it came to Alfie Dorrington at the far post, his shot deflected off Johnson.  Four minutes later, Tyrese Hall made it 3-1 before Hall controlled a pass from Harry Byrne and from a position inside the left of the box the left cut inside and lifted a right foot shot into the top corner.

Despite a late rally from Newcastle, the closes they came to getting a goal back came when Afner Ca was denied by a fine challenge by Elisha Sowunmi and Park Seung-Soo drove a shot off target at the near post.
