1975 Spurs had to win this match to stay in the First Division.  Leeds were flying high and were far above Tottenham in the League.  Home advantage must have paid dividends as  a curling free-kick from Cyril Knowles put Spurs ahead and a Martin Chivers prod in a goalmouth scramble added to the score.  Knowles converted a penalty, before Leeds got one back and then Alfie Conn scored Spurs’ fourth.  A further consolation for Leeds came and the Spurs fans in the near 50,000 crowd whistled to indicate time, before sighing a collective sigh of relief.  It is possibly the only time that the fans were pleased to have Terry Neill as manager, as they sang “We want Terry Neill” until he came out onto the pitch.
