14.09.2024 Two goals from Aston Villa’s Bradley Burrowes at Bodymoor Heath was enough to beat Spurs Under-18s.

The match was a couple of minutes old when Elijah Briscoe finished a good move only to be denied a goal by a linesman’s flag for offside, but with 17 minutes gone the Villa winger Burrowes drove a shot past Archer to find the bottom corner of the net after cutting in from the right onto his left foot.

The game settled after that and after the second half kicked off, Tottenham looked more threatening, with Tynan Thompson and Ellis Lehane both too high with efforts on goal.  The pressure was now on the Villa goal with George Feeney and Luca Williams-Barnett forcing Sam Lewis in the home goal to make good stops, although he was beaten once, bring fortunate to see the post come to his aid when Lehane bent a shot past the goalie.

Ten minutes from the end, Burrowes got away from the Tottenham defence and slid the ball past Archer for his and Villa’s second goal.  It could have got worse as Cole Brannigan and Burrowes made a move that ended with the winger looking for his hat-trick after taking the ball around Archer, but it was cleared off the line by a covering defender.

30.10.2021 Spurs took an early lead at Bodymoor Heath against Aston Villa Under-18s and despite the home side equalising, Tottenham went on to a 3-1 win.

When Renaldo Torraj beat his marker on the left wing, his cross picked out Jamie Donley’s head and he buried his header to put Spurs into a third minute lead.  Donley was in the mood today and almost double the lead after another five minutes, but a desperate block at the near post kept out his effort.

Two good chances for Torraj went begging in the Villa area, with the keeper just about stopping one on line and the other hitting the bar, but Villa were looking to get back into the match, with Adam Hayton producing a fine close-range stop to deny Dewain Sewell.  Two minutes after the break Sewell did beat Hayton after Todd Alcock had put him in on goal.

Spurs surged back into the Villa half to try to re-establish the lead and Jaden Williams was played through by Donley, finding the net, but having it ruled out for offside.  That was after 53 minutes, but a minute later Donley tricked his way past central defender Luke Softley and drilled his shot into the net.  Torraj had another shot saved by Lane with an hour gone and his counterpart Hayton was called on to save well from Sewell, with the woodwork coming to the Spurs keeper’s aid when he was beaten by a shot from substitute Charlie Pavey on the break.

In the 77th minute a break of Tottenham’s own saw Jamie Donley thread a pass through for sub Khalon Haysman to take the ball in the box and pick out a shot into the bottom corner of the net to make it 3-1.

Played in a strong wind, Spurs Under-18s had to defend in the face of the gusts in the first half as they took on Aston Villa at Spurs Lodge.

Connor Taylor and Gary Gardner tested Jordan Archer with long-range efforts, but the Spurs keeper pushed their efforts aside.   The referee gave a foul on Villa’s keeper Barrett, thus ruling out Jesse Waller-Lassen’s goal and then the midfielder struck a volley narrowly wide.

Archer was in second half action to stop Josh Barton scoring and with the wind at their backs now, Tottenham took the lead in the 76th minute, as Jack Munns took Pritchard’s pass and had a shot saved by the goalie, but he was quick to react and knocked home the rebound on the slide.

Tottenham had chances with both Pritchard and Waller-Lassen going close, but a late run by Danny Johnson created an opportunity for substitute Michael Drennan to shoot home in the last minute of the game to earn Villa a point.

A late equaliser by Aston Villa robbed the Spurs Under-18s of an away point in the FA Premier Academy League on Saturday.

An arguable handball decision gave Villa the chance to take the lead in the 15th minute, which they took.  Then Spurs were awarded a spot-kick when Jesse Waller-Lassen was fouled in the area, but Laste Dombaxe fired his penalty way over the bar and Villa held onto their lead.

A 75th minute dead ball situation ended with the ball being cleared to Callum Tapping on the edge of the area and he coolly curled it back past a mass of players in the goalmouth to give the keeper no chance as the ball hit the top corner of the net.

Spurs looked comfortable, but in the last minute of play, Villa broke away and a right wing cross was netted to give the home side the three points.

An away trip to Aston Villa brought a rare defeat for the Tottenham Academy side.

An eighth minute corner was headed into the goalmouth by Derrick Williams for Kofi Poyser to give Villa the lead.  Jamie Butler kept Spurs in it at 0-1 with a couple of good saves and halfway through the first half, Paul-Jose Mpoku’s cross was knocked home by Ryan Fredericks from close range to equalise.  The score stayed the same until right on half-time, when a chip over Butler from Ryan Simmonds restored Villa’s one goal advantage.

At the start of the second period, Kudos Oyenuga went through and was denied by the goalkeeper, only to see Aston Villa go up the other end and score through Jason Lampkin, who was set up by Tomos Roberts in the 63rd minute.  With 67 minutes on the clock, Spurs struck back, as Dean Parrett ran through the Villa midfield and played in Harry Kane to finish from 12 yards out.   A spell of Tottenham pressure saw Mpoku head a good chance over and then Spurs had a strong shout for a penalty when Kane’s shot seemed to be heading into the goal until a hand prevented it going any further.  The referee waved play on and a possible equalising opportunity evaporated.  To rub salt into the wounds Gary Gardner scored a late fourth for Villa as they broke away to hit Spurs, who were looking for another equaliser.

A breath-taking late equaliser earned Tottenham a 4-4 draw against Aston Villa at Spurs Lodge, with half of the squad playing just 20 hours after a trip back from Ukraine.

Harry Redknapp’s inclusion of a number of youth players for the UEFA Cup tie against Shakhtar Donetsk left them facing this game after a long flight back from the East.   Facing a Villa side who could have dislodged Tottenham from the top of the FA Premier Academy League Group B table, it would have been a tough task without the journey many had faced.  The only player missing from the usual line-up was Dean Parrett, who had played in Ukraine.

Although Spurs began the game well, they fell 0-2 behind in the 25th and 40th minutes, as Villa took their chances.  Andros Townsend got Tottenham back in the game, with a goal on the hour and then two quick goals from Jonathan Obika in the 65th and 70th minutes put Spurs 3-2 ahead, as the team gained the ascendancy.  However, Villa were also determined to get something out of the match and eight minutes later brought the scores level again, shortly after Tottenham had missed an opportunity to make it 4-2.

As the 90 minute mark approached and a draw looked the final outcome, Aston Villa grabbed a goal in the last minute.  The game looked up, but Spurs were made of sterner stuff and in the second minute of added time and with almost the last kick of the game, Ryan Mason knocked in Adam Smith’s right wing cross to spark scenes of celebration of the draw … but not at the score-line that everyone imagined it would finish with.

Two late goals gave Spurs an away victory over Aston Villa and put them top of the Academy League.

An assured performance against a strong Villa team showed the growing maturity of the Academy boys and although there was a wobble in the second half, the team came strong at the end of the match to score in the 88th minute.  Andros Townsend broke and passed to Josh Ekim, who spun to strike home from 20 yards.  Right on time, Townsend made a run down the left wing, beating two Villa players and crossed for Nathan Byrne to net a far post effort to seal the 2-0 win.

A seventh successive league win for the Spurs U18s saw them beat leaders Aston Villa 2-1 on Saturday at Spurs Lodge.

Ryan Mason’sheader and a penalty from David Hutton saw the lads home 2-1 in the FA Premier Academy League encounter at Spurs Lodge.

The first goal came against the run of play, when Alex Smith broke away down the right wing and his cross was handled by a Villa player.  A penalty was awarded and David Hutton scored from the spot to make it 1-0 to Tottenham.

The lead was extended in the second half, as Takura Mtandari produced a great left foot cross for Ryan Mason to head pas the keeper.

David Hutton was denied a fine save from the visiting keeper and with about five minutes remaining, Villa got a goal back when the defence failed to clear a free-kick and when the ball came back into the area twice, it was stuck into the net to make it a frantic finish. Spurs dug in to see out the game and earn the three points.

Tottenham’s Under-18s were denied a great comeback win with a last minute equaliser from Aston Villa in the FA Premier Academy League.

A young side containing three trialists took to the field for Spurs and Jake Livermore put Tottenham ahead early on.  Villa stormed back to score from a free-kick and a fine finish to a good move to leave Tottenham trailing at the break.  However, with some controlled football, Spurs fought back into the match.

Winger Jamie Davis put in a far post cross where David Hutton ran in to equalise at 2-2.  Goalkeeper David Button distributed the ball to David Hutton and he sent Cian Hughton free down the line.  The full back’s cross was met by Tomas Pekhart to put Tottenham 3-2 ahead.  With Joe Martin and Troy Archibald-Henville coming back from injury, they were replaced and this upset the shape of the side a little, with some players playing out of position.  This lead to Villa seizing the initiative and lacking height, Spurs conceded an injury-time leveller from a Villa corner.

Tottenham took the lead in the 20th minute through Jake Livermore, but Villa hit back to go into the interval with a 2-1 lead with a penalty and another goal when the ball fell kindly to a Villa player to fire home.  A right wing cross found Jacques Maghoma coming in at the far post to equalise at 2-2.  With only a couple of minutes remaining, a far post cross lead to Villa grabbing a winner.

Although the score was 1-2 to Villa at half-time, a calamitous performance in the second half left Spurs with a crashing 2-7 defeat.
