02.09.1996 Bristol City Reserves     Home (St. Albans)     Avon Insurance Combination League     Won     2-1

Tottenham were pushed back by a bright Bristol City start, but having weathered the quick start, they began to dominate after 20 minutes, exploiting the space behind their full backs.  Stephen Clemence had a good chance and then Stephen Carr went close with a header before just missing after being through on the goalkeeper.  Spurs were finding that runs made from deep positions were troubling the Robins and Kerslake and Danny Hill both made dangerous inroads towards the City goal before Carr’s through ball sent Hill through to open the scoring.

The start of the second half saw Tottenham slow to get going and City brought the score level with a goal from a corner, but the Spurs team regained the lead after opportunities for Hill and Webb as Neale Fenn and Stephen Carr worked to create a goal for Hill to make it 2-1.

The game will probably be most remembered for Stephen Carr’s chip from 45 yards out that caught the keeper off his line, but only found the crossbar denying him a spectacular goal.
