Tottenham had a dominance in this game that should have resulted in a good victory, but despite a lot of possession and control of the game they could not find the net against Cardiff City in a game played at Reading.

Of the two sides, Tottenham went closest to scoring with Shaquille Coulthirst and Kenneth McEvoy both hitting the woodwork.

The Bluebirds flew back to Cardiff with a 2-1 win against the Spurs Under-18s at Spurs Lodge.

A 21st minute penalty was converted by Laste Dombaxe after Jack Barthram was fouled, but another shout for a spot-kick was ignored by the match officials when Shaq Coulthirst appeared to be brought down shortly afterwards.

The 1-0 lead at half-time evaporated with an older Cardiff side’s pressure paying off with goals in the 51st and 70th minutes by Kevin Saint Luce and Ibrahim Farah, when the ball was intercepted from Tottenham passes on each occasion.

Going 0-1 down early on to Cardiff City, who had home advantage, only kick started Tottenham into a fine performance that saw them end up 5-1 winners.

Tom Carroll evened things up at 1-1 and then Harry Kane’s goal before half-time gave Spurs the lead.

Into the second period, Jesse Waller-Lassen put Carroll in for his second and five minutes later, Jose-Paul Mpoku hit the net to make it 4-1.

There was still time for Cardiff to be awarded a penalty, which Jamie Butler saved and when Waller-Lassen was fouled in the box at the other end, it was left to Tom Carroll to step up and complete his hat-trick with a successful spot-kick.

Spurs took a while to get going in their 3-1 win over Cardiff City in the FA Premier Academy league match at Spurs Lodge.

The reshuffled defence put in a good performance and it took until halfway through the first half for the deadlock to be broken, with Ryan Fredericks netting after the Bluebirds’ keeper saved a deflected Paul-Jose Mpoku free-kick on 20 minutes.  Five minutes later, a sweeping passing move opened space on the left for a cross which Fredericks was on hand to tuck away for a 2-0 Spurs lead.

Cardiff hit back in the second half, putting Spurs under pressure, but they could only get past them with five minutes to go and Paul McBride scored in injury time at the end of the game to secure the win for Tottenham.

30 goals in six games explains why Tottenham top the FA Premier Academy League Group B table and this game saw Tottenham gain revenge for their only defeat so far this season.

Played in wet and windy conditions, Cardiff had a good spell after the kick off for 20 minutes, but Spurs adapted well and took the lead in the 25th minute, as Andros Townsend’s free-kick was headed home at the far post by Paul-Jose M’puku and the scorer turned provider soon after, setting up Ryan Mason with a through ball to take it around the keeper and shoot home.

Into the second half, Tottenham kept possession better and the score-line became 3-0 when John Bostock took a quick free-kick as Cardiff were getting their wall set up and he shot home.  A fourth goal rounded off the win with Andros Townsend’s inviting cross being headed home for M’puku’s second of the match.

03.11.2007 Tottenham bounced back into form after an 0-2 reverse against MK Dons to beat Cardiff City on their trip to Wales.

Spurs gained an early control of the game and passed the ball well to threaten the home goal from all angles.  Yuri Berchiche did well on the left wing and set up Andros Townsend for a shot to open the scoring after 25 minutes.  Shortly after, Alex Olsen won a free-kick on the edge of the area and Berchiche drove it home from 22 yards out.

The second half saw Cardiff come back into the match and with a quarter of an hour left, they gained a penalty to make it 1-2.  It was only a temporary respite, as Chris Casey’s long ball forward was chased down by Kyle Fraser-Allen, who finished well for the third goal.

03.02.2007 Spurs played out a 0-0 away draw with Cardiff City Under-18.

Tomas Pekhart had a good headed effort saved by the Bluebirds’ keeper, with a couple of one-on-ones which he failed to convert and Luke Medley could have won it at the death with a good chance that failed to go in.

However, on the day, despite a good performance and lots of possession, the lack of a finish cost Spurs the win.
