They are linked with both
. | |
Bill Adams | Signed for Tottenham in January 1937 as a youngster and played ten matches during World War II, but moved back to the area of his birth making 33 appearances for Carlisle and netting one goal. |
. | |
Clive Allen | A forward signed by Spurs from Crystal Palace and was a heavy scorer through his time at White Hart Lane between 1984 and 1988. Played three games after signing for Carlisle United in late 1995, which were the last three matches of his playing days. |
. | |
Ben Alnwick | Goalkeeper signed by Spurs from Sunderland after just over 20 appearances, but struggled to have much time between the sticks at White Hart Lane. Made one first team appearance in his five years with Tottenham, spending much of that period out on loan, including playing half a dozen games for the Brunton Park club in 2008. After leaving Tottenham, he signed for Barnsley, Charlton, Orient, Peterborough and Bolton. |
. | |
Troy Archibald-Henville | Tall defender who was with the youth system at Tottenham before having loan spells with Norwich and Exeter, before signing permanently for the Devon club in 2010. Left for Swindon Town in 2012 and went on loan to Carlisle in 2013, which was a success until he picked up a knee injury and returned to his parent club. However, in 2014 Troy moved to Brunton Park on a two year deal making 41 appearances and scoring three times. Left when released in June 2016 to re-sign for Exeter and then they let him go in 2018. Returned to White Hart Lane in 2019 as an Academy coach at Spurs. |
. | |
Ivor Broadis | Signed for Spurs in 1939, Broadis played in our wartime side 84 times, scoring 38 goals before joining Carlisle in March 1946 as player-manager at the age of 23. He stayed until January 1949, when he was sold to Sunderland. Went back to Brunton Park in July 1955 as player-coach and took his Carlisle appearance total to 255 appearances and 84 goals. |
. | |
Archie Burgon | Spurs signed the winger from Grantham Town in 1934 and stayed at White Hart Lane for two years playing four games before moving to Wrexham in October 1935. Moved around and joined Carlisle in summer 1939, but managed only two games before the war broke out – these being the last games of his career. |
. | |
Pascal Chimbonda | French defender, best known for his tights and gloves, had a much travelled 20 year career, starting with Le Harve and Bastia before joining Wigan Athletic. Spurs signed him in 2006 and he was part of the 2008 League Cup winning team and made over 60 appearances, but left for Sunderland in 2008, returning to White Hart Lane within a year, making only five appearances this time before he was sold to Blackburn Rovers. His sinuous career took in a three month contract stop at Brunton Park in October 2018, where he played nearly thirty games for The Cumbrians. |
. | |
John Dockray | A Carlisle product, he moved onto Bury and Exeter City before guesting for Spurs in 11 matches during the First World War. |
. | |
Fred Ford | A centre half who played three times for Spurs as a war-time guest in 1945, but in August 1947 he joined Carlisle as player-coach with 28 league appearances, staying until 1955. |
. | |
John Gorman | Only player Spurs have bought from Carlisle. Signed by the Cumbrians from Celtic, he played for six years scoring five goals in 229 league matches. A £60,000 purchase in November 1976, Gorman played just 32 matches in two and a half years when he was hit by injuries and had to retire from the game. |
. | |
David Hutton | A Spurs youth product, the midfielder had a trial at Carlisle United when looking for a club when Tottenham released him. |
. | |
Ryan Loft | Signed by Spurs in 2015, he spent three years in the Academy, going out on loan to Braintree Town, Stevenage and Exeter City before being released to join Leicester City. Loaned out to Carlisle United in August 2019, scoring six times in 35 appearances, but when released by the Foxes, he signed for Scunthorpe United. |
. | |
Alexander McQueen | A defender who rose through the ranks of the Tottenham academy, but couldn’t force his way into the first team, so when he was let go in 2015, he signed a one year deal with The Cumbrians and played 25 games before turning down a new deal at the end of that season. Had a short spell in Finland before returning to England to join non-league Dagenham & Redbridge and then Barnet. |
. | |
Tom Smith | Joined Spurs in 1898 from Preston North End to spend four years at White Hart Lane, during which time he scored 17 goals in 88 games, including an FA Cup winners medal in 1901. Went back to Preston and then spent some time at Carlisle in 1904. |
. | |
John Sutton | Another forward from the Tottenham Academy who went on loan to Carlisle United in 2002, scoring one goal in ten matches, but couldn’t make headway at Spurs, so went to join Swindon Town before moving to Scotland, Wycombe and Australia. Coached the Greenock Morton reserve side. |
. | |
W. H. Wallbanks | A Spurs player in 1938-39, although spent that at Northfleet, he made the move to Carlisle with Burgon and had only three matches before the club closed down for the war. |
