11.04.2025 Under-17 Premier League Cup Final     Home (Stevenage FC)     Won     5-2

Spurs overwhelmed a dogged Charlton Athletic side at Broadhall Way to take the Under-17 Premier League Cup with a 5-2 win.

The game started with Luca Williams-Barnett being released down the left wing and taking on three men to get into the box, just a couple of yards in from the left side of the area, he flashed a left foot shot into the far side of the goal from a narrow angle in the third minute.  Charlton didn’t take the goal lying down and soon hit back when ex-Spurs schoolboy Manu Wales struck a right foot shot from just outside the D to beat Blake Irow to his right with 18 minutes gone.  Thirty-four minutes had passed when Williams-Barnett was on the score-sheet again, this time adjusting his right foot to direct the low ball in from Tynan Thompson on the left in at the keeper’s near post to make it 2-1.

Williams-Barnett tricked his way past three Charlton players before pulling a ball back for George Feeney, whose goal-bound shot was blocked for a corner. The half ended with a Williams-Barnett free-kick from 25 yards out that beat the wall, but the keeper dropped on it to save and then a move down the left saw the impressive Thompson try and over-head kick but only hit a defender with his foot.

Reuben Reid tested Irow with a low shot that the Spurs goalie saved well at his right hand post, as Charlton came out fired up after the break.   Spurs responded with a Feeney header to a corner that drifted just wide of the far post, then Reid hit the foot of Irow’s left hand post from 16 yards out and then Jun’ai Byfield cleared off the line from the continuation of that attack.  When the ball was cleared ,Charlton dithered on the ball at the back and Williams’ Barnet showed his appetite for hard work by robbing the defender 25 yards from goal.  Running into the box in the 56th minute, he sat the keeper down by pretending to shoot and swiping his foot over the ball, leaving him the simple task of putting the ball into an empty net.

A cross was delivered into the Tottenham box from the right, but Tye Hall headed away to the edge of the box, but Feeney couldn’t get it away any further with his header and that allowed the ball to be played to Wales just left of centre on the edge of the box to fire a left foot shot that beat Irow all ends up to the keeper’s left in the 59th minute.

Elijah Upson made a good block to a Wales shot after the Charlton midfielder broke away from halfway, but when a visiting midfielder smacked the ball against his own player, it ran to Williams-Barnett on the left and he made a diagonal run to the right that was ended by a crude challenge by the lumbering Elliott, who was booked.  Harry Byrne took it from halfway between the right corner of the area and the D, firing a low left-footed shot under the wall to beat the keeper’s dive to his right.  65 minutes gone and 4-2 to Spurs, it remained to be seen if the Addicks could respond again.

Three minutes later the Charlton keeper had to push away a swerving powerful shot from Williams-Barnett, whose effort from 20 yards out was heading into the top corner.  Players were suffering with cramp and substitutions were made with Dexter Oliver slipping in Ellis Lehane, who couldn’t beat the keeper at his near post.  With ten minutes remaining, Oliver shopped the ball inside an opponent and slipped it through to Reiss Elliott-Parris to the left of the goal.  He came inside, dragged the ball away from Elliott to the left and lifted a shot high into the net between the keeper and the near post from a yard out.

Irow raced out to meet Burnham when he was through on the Charlton left, forcing him to shoot over the bar, with Reid breaking through to also shoot too high.  Oliver won the ball with high energy and ran at the Charlton defence in injury time, being denied a goal by a defender’s block as Tottenham saw the game out, despite having two central defenders unable to run having been suffering with cramp.

11.09.2020 Spurs travelled to South London and came home with a 4-0 FA Premier Academy League victory.

Spurs welcomed back Alex Pritchard and Zaine Francis-Angol from injury and Jonathan Miles started his first Academy league match, as Tottenham set about their task early on with Pritchard nicking the ball off the Addicks’ centre-half and playing in Laste Dombaxe, who hit the net with his shot.

While that was the only goal of the first half, Tottenham added two goals soon after the turnaround and they came from Pritchard with a curling 50th minute free-kick, then five minutes later, Shaquille Coulthirst put Pritchard away to beat the keeper and make the score 3-0.

Spurs then put together a good move on the left and it was finished well from a narrow angle by Jesse Waller-Lassen to make it 4-0.

14.01.2009 Spurs eased through this FA Youth Cup Fourth Round tie 3-0 against Charlton Athletic with an impressive performance.

Spurs took the early game to Charlton, but in the seventh minute, a long ball up-field from Solly went over our back four and Oscar Jansson raced out to clear, but the ball held up and Long got to the ball first.  From a tight angle, he shot at goal past Sam Cox, but Callum Butcher was on the line to clear the effort away. Moving the ball to the other end, Spurs put Andros Townsend away on the left, from where he crossed for Paul-Jose M’Poku to get a shot on target, but it was blocked out to John Bostock, who placed a side-footed shot from 16 yards onto the inside of the post and the ball unfortunately bounced out.  Stephen Caulker came close to breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute, when his powerful header from Yaser Kasim’s free-kick was beaten out by Christie in the Charlton goal.

Tottenham were moving the ball about well and a one touch move opened the Addicks defence and Bostock ended it with an effort that was pulled wide in the 25th minute.  Two minutes later, Spurs got closer, with Townsend’s low ball along the six yard box just too far ahead of M’poku and Jon Obika to reach.  But Charlton were determined to test our defence and on the half hour, a free-kick was played into the Spurs box.  This was caught by Jansson and a pacy counter-attack, with the keeper throwing out to Dean Parrett saw him cross just too high for Obika to get a decent connection on the ball.  Ten minutes before the break, Kasim curled a free-kick just over the top and breaking at the other end, Jansson held a 30 yard effort from Pell.

Jansson was in action again, as Godfrey was put through on goal by Lozano-Calderon and the keeper came out to stop the shot with his legs in the 39th minute.  It was three minutes later that Tottenham went ahead when John Bostock picked up the ball 40 yards from goal in the middle of the pitch and smacked a shot that flew into the top corner with the goalkeeper helpless.  1-0 to Spurs in the 43rd minute, but Jansson came to the rescue in added time at the end of the half, as he dived to stop Godfrey’s shot at the near post.

The second half saw Charlton pushing to get back in the game with a shot by Pell that went over the bar, but then Spurs hit back and from a short corner by Kasim, Townsend cut into the area and drove across the keeper, who grabbed the ball at the second attempt as Caulker came in.  The next Spurs move doubled the lead on the hour, as Bostock moved forward to unleash a shot from 25 yards into the bottom right hand corner as Obika’s run drew defenders away.

Now confident with the two goal lead, Tottenham pressed on and hit the underside of the bar in the 72nd minute, when Townsend shifted Bostock’s pass out of his feet and smacked the ball against the woodwork from the edge of the box.  Unfortunately, the ball bounced just to high for M’puku to get a decent header on it.  A couple of minutes later, Bostock put Obika in and his shot from the right forced Christie to save with his feet and then the keeper made a fine save, tipping over Obika’s shot that looked destined for the top corner of the net.

With just over ten minutes left, Spurs sealed the win with the third goal as Parrett put a pass through from the right side to Obika, who out-muscled the defender in a race for the ball and slipped it past the advancing keeper to see Tottenham through to the fifth round tie away against Plymouth Argyle.

13.09.2008 The Under-18 team had the better of the game, but failed to break through against Charlton Athletic’s youngsters in this 0-0 draw.

Ryan Mason twice tested keeper Christie, but he was equal to them, making a further fine save from Yaser Kasim.  The closest Tottenham came was in the 88th minute, when Andros Townsend crashed a shot past the keeper, but saw his effort bounce away off the goal-post.

21.04.2001 Some poor finishing and some bad luck prevented Spurs Under-17s taking a win from this home match with Charlton Athletic and they had to settle for a draw.

The post was struck by both Ronnie Henry and Walter Thomas in the first 45 minutes, but it was Charlton who took the lead in the 20th minute from a free-kick.  A neat header from David Galbraith set up a chance for John Sutton and his 38th minute strike levelled the score.  Despite another effort hitting the crossbar, it was not to be Tottenham’s day as they could not force a winning goal.

15.02.1997 Spurs Youth repeated their 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic of five days before, with the victory coming in the South-East Counties Division 1 this time.

Both sides exhibited signs of fatigue from the Youth Cup match, but Tottenham made their passes better an just before the break James Evans was fouled in the box and that gave Darren Davies the chance to beat the keeper to give us the lead.  The introduction of three players on schoolboy forms in the second half gave Spurs some fresh legs and it paid off with Dominic Cader crossing for Wayne Vaughan to finish in style.

10.02.1997 A muddy pitch at the Valley was not a hindrance for Spurs Youth, as they beat Charlton Athletic 2-0 in this FA Cup Fourth Round tie.

Both sides made a good game out of the awful conditions, but it was Spurs who took the lead when Wayne Vaughan scored from Mark Gower’s corner.  Alan Marriott was keeping Charlton out as the game swung from end to end and Vaughan had the ball in the net again before the interval, but it was disallowed.

The half-time changes stiffened up the Tottenham defending and gave them a base to launch attacks including the one where Julian Delicata buried Darren Davies’ pinpoint cross past the home keeper to see Spurs through to the Fifth Round.
