Spurs v Colchester United Reserves Match Reports

.
09.07.2022 A pre-season friendly match was played behind closed doors at Hotspur Way, with Spurs Under-21s winning the game 1-0 against Colchester United’s first team.

Tottenham’s first attack came from a right wing cross by Yago Santiago that found Kion Etete’s head, but the ball ended up on the roof of the net instead of in it in the 18th minute.  Chances came from Romaine Mundle and Nile John before Newby had a chance for Colchester from a tight angle that Adam Hayton did well to stop at his near post as the game reached the 30 minute mark.  The lively Mundle was denied twice just before half-time by the United keeper Sam Hornby, with  opportunities at both ends just after the restart,

The only goal of the game came in the 66th minute.  A cross from the right wing found Mathurin meeting the ball at the near post to beat Hornby.  With both sides making a raft of changes to get playing time into the squad’s legs, the game became a little disjointed, but Colchester finished the match the stronger of the two sides.

Luke Chambers put a header too high and Freddie Sears shot into the side-netting, before he thought he had levelled for the League Two side in the 79th minute, but his shot on the turn beat substitute keeper Aaron Maguire, only to see it ruled out by the linesman’s flag for offside.

Teams included : –
Spurs : –  Adam Hayton (Aaron Maguire), Tyrell Ashcroft, Maksim Paskotsi, Matthew Craig, Nile John, Jamie Bowden, Roshaun Mathurin, Yago Santiago, ,
Colchester United : –  Sam Hornby, Luke Chambers, Freddie Sears

Spurs v Colchester United Youth Match Reports

.
09.08.1997 Spurs Juniors fielded a young side as they hosted Colchester United in the South-East Counties Division 2.

An uneventful first half ended goalless despite having a goal from Peter Crouch disallowed for offside.  However, a good move along the left wing involving some first time passing resulted in the first goal from Ryan Gunn, converting a pass from just outside the six yard box.  With chances coming more readily, Ian Stonebridge and Scott Lovell went close, but it was Ross Fitzsimon scored the second goal from just inside the box with his right foot.

Teams : –
Spurs  –  Wood, Blake Saker (Ryan Gunn 60), Duffin, White, Narada Bernard, Mills, Stuart Thurgood (Glenn Poole 64), Ross Fitzsimon, Ian Stonebridge, Peter Crouch (Scott Lovett 46), O’Brien

19.08.1989 Despite a good performance, Tottenham’s Juniors slipped to a 1-2 home defeat to Colchester United in the South-East Counties Division 2.

A side with 10 schoolboy players did well to give the more experienced Colchester side a good game, with Dean Kingshott scoring Tottenham’s goal.

10.12.1988 Coming back from a goal behind, Tottenham Juniors scored an important home win against Colchester United in the South-East Counties Division 2.

Colchester had taken the lead with a well executed free-kick and when Scott Houghton’s cross found Matthew Edwards at the far post, the wide man took the ball down, rounded a full back and slotted the ball past the keeper.  It was from a well-worked free-kick that Spurs went ahead just before half-time, with David Tuttle scoring.

Tottenham’s good play continued into the second half, with Edwards scoring a second goal to extend the Spurs lead, but although a number of goal-scoring chances were created no further goals came our way and with a few minutes left on the clock, Colchester pegged Spurs back to 3-2 to make for a nervy couple of minutes.

27.08.1988 Tottenham had a very inexperienced Juniors side for this visit to Colchester United in the South-East Counties Division 2 and lost out 0-3.

Despite the U’s having the bigger players, Spurs took control of the first half and Hung Dang went close three times, once with his shot hitting the bar, but the teams turned around goal-less.  That was something that Colchester changed in the second period, with a goal soon after the restart and then they hit the bar, went close with a couple of efforts before scoring two late goals as their stamina and strength told.
