26.09.2021 | Spurs Under-23s were given a flying start before going on to win 3-1 against Derby County at Stevenage FC in this Premier League 2 match.
When Marcel Lavinier played Nile John through, the midfielder manoeuvred into a shooting position to drive his shot right footed into the opposite corner in just the second minute. Derby launched an attack that saw Max Bardell head just over the bar, but Tottenham made the most of the miss when they broke to the other end and Dilan Markanday was picked out by Jack Clarke’s cross-field pass, coming in from the right to beat the keeper at his near post from 18 yards out. Keeping up the pressure, the Derby keeper cut out a pull back from the dead ball line from Alfie Devine and then, following a Harvey White free-kick that caused confusion, the ball dropped for Marqes Muir to hit an effort on target, but somehow Jordan Brown managed to clear the shot off the line. After 27 minutes, Derby got a foothold back in the game when Connor Dixon had the space to cross the ball for Luke Plange to find the net from 10 yards. The second half started at a great pace and Derby should have done better with the two opportunities they created for Plange and another for Brown. When Spurs got to the other end, Yago Santiago couldn’t capitalise on Markanday’s cross, with John unable to get his contact to Devine’s cross on target. The Rams had a free-kick that Muir blocked bravely in the wall before Markanday had a couple of shots blocked and then in the 77th minute, Santiago won the ball, played it back for Devine, who controlled it, turned and found the roof of the net from six yard out to make to 3-1. White nearly added a fourth when his late run into the area produced a shot that keeper Foulkes did well to keep out. Teams : |

26.03.2008 | Spurs edged this game against Derby County reserves at Leyton Orient FC with a goal from the penalty spot by Jon Obika. In a physical match, both Dorian Dervite and Gilberto intercepted crosses into the area in the early stages, but the closest either team came to scoring was a twelfth minute turn and shot by Danny Rose, but it was just too high. Alex Smith hit a pass diagonally to Kyle Fraser-Allen and he cut inside to fire a shot at goal, but he was unlucky to see it rebound off the foot of the post.
In the 35th minute, Troy Archibald-Henville nodded down a corner and Simon Dawkins latched onto it, slashing a shot goalwards, which deflected off defender Addison’s head and over the crossbar. The Derby defender was very involved and having already sandwiched Fraser-Allen with Kean, he slid into Jacques Maghoma with his studs showing and received an immediate red card in the 38th minute. Five minutes before the break, Gilberto’s break down the left wing saw him pull the ball back for Maghoma, but the striker missed the target when well placed. Five minutes the other side of the interval and Gilberto was the creator again, making an opening for Rose to volley too high. It was all Spurs and Dawkins had a shot blocked by Kean after Fraser-Allen had crossed to him. Rose’s 58th minute corner saw Archibald-Henville head wide and then Rose himself had a chance, with a shot that Forde got a touch on to take wide. As the game reached 72 minutes, Jon Obika got into the box following nice work from Rose and Dawkins. Once there, Johnson felled him before he had a chance to shoot and he got up to take the spot-kick to make it 1-0. Keeper Kean could not reach Makura Mtandari’s header from a corner, but it flew over the bar, then Rose hit a shot well wide and was thwarted by Kean, leaving a final effort by Smith to fly way too high from 30 yards failing to add to the score-line.
