Back in 1982, Tottenham were drawn away to Gillingham in the Fourth Round of the League Cup.  Played on Wednesday 9th November, the 4-2 win for Spurs (with two goals each for Garth Crooks and Steve Archibald) drew a crowd of 14,466.

Unfortunately for Gillingham, Spurs were unable to sell their full allocation of tickets and had to return some, but did so late, meaning the the Gills were unable to sell them for the cup-tie.

To make up for the loss, as a goodwill gesture, Spurs sent a side down to Priestfield to play a Gillingham reserve side, the following week.
The match kicked off at 14.00 on a Wednesday afternoon and the Tottenham side contained Garry Brooke, Glenn Hoddle and Steve Perryman had played in the cup match, with the game not recorded in any Spurs official records.

However, the above team sheet was issued and our thanks go to Andrew Ford for providing a photo of it and giving us details of how the match came about.  The autograph on the team sheet is Glenn Hoddle’s.
