24.01.1981 FA Cup Fifth Round     Home     Won     2-0

Spurs eventually eased through to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 home win over Hull City, but not without a few worrying moments along the way.

While the Tigers’ keeper Tony Norman prevented Spurs getting the goal they deserved, including three good saves to deny Garth Crooks, Hull City went close in the first period, with a Edwards lob over Daines that just drifted wide of the post.  They opened up Tottenham’s back line easily on occasion, as Tottenham tried to push up for offside, but only created four efforts on goal.

26.04.1978 Division 2     Home     Won     1-0

A Wednesday night saw Hull City visit White Hart Lane for a Second Division match with Spurs having slipped to fourth in the table.

It was the penultimate game of the season which Spurs wanted to be their only one in the second tier, but Hull were suffering at the other end of the league, having already been relegated.  This did not stop the Tigers fighting like lions against Spurs, who put them under extreme pressure with 30 corners as they strove for the goal that would give them the advantage.

Two headers from Glenn Hoddle were cleared off the goal-line and Eddie Blackburn, the Hull keeper, made a good saves from a header by Don McAllister and a close range Peter Taylor shot.

Spurs had to wait until the 81st minute to break the Tigers’ resistance.  With the 28th corner of the game on its way into the box, Chris Jones made a run to jump with the City goalie and he flapped at the ball, which dropped to captain Steve Perryman to scramble the ball over the line from a yard out.
