Many thanks to Terry Newman for his photos of the Smith Tobacco company “Footballers” card set, of which there were 150 in total.
Printed in 1912, these cards were 68mm x 35mm and carried a biography on the reverse.  They came in two varieties – one with dark blue printing on reverse and one with light blue printing.
The three cards below were the Tottenham players featured in the set –
Tommy Lunn – No. 71
Bert Middlemiss  –  No. 94
Tom Collins  –  No. 112.

The F. & J. Smith Tobacco company published a “Footballers” set of 150 cards with Cup-Tie cigarettes.  There is some debate about the date of issue, with the official date cited as 1906, but it is thought to be more likely that it was 1901.

Of the 150 cards, there were cards of 11 Tottenham players printed.  These included the three below.
No. 91  Alex Tait
No. 92  Harry Erentz
No. 95  John Jones
No. 100  Ted Hughes
No. 102  George Clawley
No. 107  Tom Morris
No. 109  Jack Kirwan
No. 110  David Copeland
No. 111  Alex Brown
No. 112  John Cameron
No. 113  Tom Smith.
