09.04.1993 Premier League     Home     Won     4-0

Tottenham ran out big winners in this home Premier League match against Norwich City.

Tottenham’s opener came in the 26th minute, when a 28 yard free-kick was touched to Neil Ruddock, who drove the ball in past Bryan Gunn.  With half an hour gone, Anderton appeared on the right to square the ball to Sheringham on the edge of the box, firing home a first time low drive to make it 2-0.

After half-time, Tottenham continued attacking, with Ruddock playing a free-kick to the right side of the penalty area, where Teddy Sheringham headed the ball across the area for Nick Barmby to dive in and head the third Spurs goal in the 54th minute.  With just a quarter of an hour left, Sheringham struck again.  Barmby played a short pass to Anderton in the area and winning a slide tackle, he squared the ball to Teddy, who tapped the ball home at the second attempt at the near post.

Nayim sealed Tottenham’s win winning the ball on the left and moving into the box, with a step-over and from a narrow angle, he lifted the ball over Gunn for number five.

Norwich got a goal in the 85th minute, with Mark Robins getting away on the right wing, going past two Spurs men and then sliding the ball towards goal, where Efan Ekoku forced it over the line, but it could not stop Spurs recording a comprehensive 5-1 win.

24.01.1993 FA Cup Fourth Round     Away     Won     2-0

This FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Carrow Road featured a Teddy Sheringham double that saw Spurs through to the Fifth Round.

Gordon Durie and Nick Barmby did some good work on the left wing and the latter put in a low ball to the near post, where Sheringham side-footed in to open the scoring three minutes after the break.  Darren Anderton’s free-kick on the left created the second goal for Teddy, whipping the ball in, the striker glanced a header past Bryan Gunn in the Norwich City goal.

Spurs turned in a masterly display to send the Canaries flying back to Norwich with very little to show from their visit to White Hart Lane.

Spurs were on the back foot early on, but Gary Lineker took David Howells’ through ball around Norwich goalkeeper Bryan Gunn in the 24th minute to put Tottenham ahead.  Howells got his head to a Nayim corner to put Spurs two up before the interval and it was 3-0 shortly after the break, when Lineker struck again, this time scoring in the same fashion thanks to Paul Walsh’s pass.

With 62 minutes elapsed, Lineker completed his hat trick as he tried to go around Gunn again, but was tripped and the England striker got up to slot the ball home from the penalty spot.  Ex-Spurs Ian Culverhouse, Mark Bowen and Ian Crook could do little about the final result and nor could Tim Sherwood, who was at his second club and was later to join Spurs.

Despite a good start to the match by Spurs, the home side took the lead with 35 minutes gone.  Following Bobby Mimms’ fine stop to keep out Dale Gordon, the resulting corner produced Robert Rosario the opportunity to head into the Spurs net.  The Norwich lead was extended a minute before half-time when Robert Fleck scored.

Chris Fairclough sweetly finished a move that involved Gary Stevens and Paul Gascoigne to get Spurs back into the match, but when Andy Linighan scored with a header from Gordon’s corner after 70 minutes, it left Tottenham too tough a task to claim something from the game.

Early goals levelled matters in this game at Carrow Road, with Norwich grabbing a late winner to take the points.

Ally Dick and Keith Bertschin cancelled each other’s goals out inside the first four minutes of the match.  Peter Mendham intercepted Glenn Hoddle’s diagonal pass and put Bertschin in on goal and he finished with a low shot from 12 yards out in the third minute.  However, within a minute, Dick picked up the ball on the left and went past two defenders as he ran 30 yards with the ball before shooting past Chris Woods from a narrow angle to make it 1-1.

The game fluctuated in the rest of the first half, as Mark Barham was denied a shooting opportunity with a fine tackle and Hoddle hit the stanchion with a volley, before Mark Falco made Woods dive to keep out a low shot.

In the second half, Mick Channon picked up a yellow card for a foul on Hughton and then played Louis Donowa down the wing and his cross was headed narrowly wide by Bertschin, with Denis van Wyk hitting a 20 yard shot just wide soon afterwards.  Steve Archibald brought the best out of Woods at the other end with a header that was very well saved and then should have done better when put clear by Hoddle’s pass, but with Woods stranded, the Scot shot wide.

With John Devine breaking up a Spurs move, he ran at the middle of the Spurs midfield and gave Mick Channon the chance to nick a winner, by slotting past Ray Clemence, with seven minutes left on the clock, thus ending Tottenham’s run of nine games unbeaten.

Spurs emerged from the post-Christmas visit to Carrow Road with a point in an eventful 2-2 draw with Norwich City.

The first only goal of the game came from Steve Archibald, but that was equalised by Justin Fashanu’s goal just before the interval.  Spurs regained the lead shortly after the restart when Glenn Hoddle made it 2-1, but he was soon involved at the other end of the pitch, having to take over between the posts when Milija Aleksic suffered a nasty gashed shin when he caught his leg on a hook on the goalpost.

The Spurs side did well to keep the ball away from our goal, but Hoddle looked confident in goal, although it was disappointing that he was beaten by a late penalty from Kevin Bond.

Peter Taylor’s spectacular equaliser went a long way to Tottenham securing a 3-1 win against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

It was former Spurs winger Jimmy Neighbour who gave the Canaries a 1-0 lead after 26 minutes, but the current Spurs winger Taylor scored with an acrobatic scissors kick to beat Kevin Keelan from inside the six-yard box following good work by John Pratt and Gerry Armstrong.  It was Pratt who put Tottenham ahead in the 78th minute.  Gerry Armstrong won the ball in the centre circle, then made inroads into the Norwich half before setting up Pratt’s fine shot that found the back of the net.  Man of the match Armstrong had the final say, scoring a spectacular third goal to take the points home from the club’s trip to Norfolk.

30.08.1975 Division 1     Home     Drew     2-2

Spurs were held 2-2 at home by Norwich City, who grabbed a late, late equaliser.

John Pratt’s fine first half goal saw Spurs lead at the interval, but a Phil Boyer equaliser saw Norwich come back into the game before the Tottenham  lead was re-established when John Duncan scored.  The Scot hit a shot with his right foot that flew in off the post to put Spurs back into the lead at 2-1 after Jimmy Neighbour had back-heeled the ball into his path in the second half.

Substitute Glenn Hoddle curled a left foot shot narrowly wide after he had replaced Cyril Knowles, but it was Ted MacDougall who was on the mark late in the game who denied Tottenham a valuable win.

With David Cross’ 85th minute header hitting the bar, Spurs seemed to have got away with a win at Carrow Road, but Doug Livermore was on hand to knock in the rebound with his head to level the game at 1-1.  Spurs had earlier taken a lead through Alan Gilzean, when his powerful header from a corner just before the half-time whistle.

10.03.1973 Division 1     Home     Won     3-0

A first visit by Norwich City for a First Division match came just seven days after the two teams were to meet in the League Cup Final at Wembley.

The result was an emphatic win for Tottenham, despite playing below par.  Jimmy Pearce had poked home an early goal, but it did not prompt any further goals in the first half, as Spurs struggled to maintain any sort of rhythm.

The second half saw Tottenham play better and when Pearce was fouled in the penalty area, Martin Chivers stepped up to convert the spot-kick.  It was Chivers again to make it 3-0 when Martin Peters and Pearce combined to set him up with a looping header over Kevin Keelan from eight yards out at the Park Lane end.
