26.01.1991
Paul Gascoigne’s brilliance was too much for Oxford to contend with as Spurs eased through this FA Cup Third Round tie. Captain Gary Mabbutt took the ball off U’s defender Steve Foster to open the scoring with s low shot on eight minutes and with 20 minutes gone, Gascoigne’s header put Lineker away to beat Veysey to make it 2-0.  Martin Foyle’s goal for Oxford on the half hour made it 2-1, which was the score when the teams went in at half-time.

It was Gascoigne who took the second half honours, when he skipped round four defenders to slide the ball in from a narrow angle in the 58th minute and then Foyle reduced the arrears once more with ten minutes left.  However, the Geordie midfielder had the last word, when he dribbled the ball through and shot high into the net with just four minutes left on the clock to secure Tottenham’s passage to the Fourth Round.

25.04.1987 Glenn Hoddle’s last home goal for the club was a masterpiece that matched the maestro’s skill.  Richard Gough’s clearing header fell to Hoddle 70 yards from the Oxford goal.  The midfielder took the ball over the half-way line and as two players moved towards him, he darted between them and as the ball ran into the area, he shimmied to leave goalkeeper Peter Hucker going to ground and leaving Glenn to walk the ball past him without touching it and then tapping it into the empty net.
