Sheffield United Reserve and Youth Match Reports

Sheffield United’s Under 18s lost out to a late goal in the semi-finals of Premier League Cup as an 89th-minute winner sent Tottenham Hotspur into the final.

Played at United’s Shirecliffe Academy, where there had been heavy snow, it was a typical Cup tie with very few chances.  Although both sides won corners early in the game, nothing came from them.  Tottenham had a lot of possession, while United looked dangerous on the break.  Around the 30 minute mark, the home side got a grip of the midfield and created a header for Hampson that was cleared and a shot from Spurs fan Peck that was blocked.

Into the second half, Faxon in the Sheffield goal was called into action to make a save and then Peck tried a long range shot that was kept out by Luca Gunter just before he curled a free-kick inches wide with 15 minutes left.  It was in the final minute of the match that Spurs found a goal and it came from a quick left wing break that produced a chance for Rio Kyerematen to shoot low into the opposite side of the goal that there was no coming back from.
