Doug Hunt A centre forward who hit six goals in one match when Wednesday beat Norwich City 7-0 in November 1938, but Doug Hunt had previously played for Spurs and Barnsley before moving to Hillsborough.  Spotted playing  for Winchester City, Hunt signed for Tottenham in March 1934 and was initially put in Northfleet United’s side, the Spurs nursery club, before making his debut six months on.  Suffering relegation in his first season, his place in the team was taken by George Hunt of Johnny Morrison, resulting in only 19 first team games with 6 goals scored, although he scored 56 in 74 reserve matches.  In May 1937, he left for Barnsley where he had a good scoring season and was snapped up by Wednesday in March 1938 for £3,875.  His impact was immediate, securing First Division safety for the Owls, in scoring the winner against Spurs.  Just missing out on promotion the following season, when he had his six-goal haul against Norwich, the war then robbed him of a large chunk of his career.  Was sold on to Leyton Orient where he finished his career in 1948, going into non-league management with a number of clubs until his retirement when he was 72 in 1986.  Died in May 1989.

Jimmy Seed Started his career with Sunderland, but it was interrupted by World War I, during which he served in the Army and survived a mustard gas attack in Belgium.  On his return to football, he had a poor game and Sunderland let him go.  Hadyn Price, a former Spurs player, was managing Mid Rhondda and signed him in 1919, but within seven months, his form was such that Peter McWilliam, the Spurs manager snapped him up, perhaps tipped off about the forward by Price.  In 254 matches for Tottenham, Jimmy scored 76 goals and won the 1920 Second Division title and the FA Cup in 1921.  Deciding he was past his best at 32, Spurs cut his wages from £8 to £7 a week in 1927, so let him leave in a swap deal with Arthur Lowdell, but it blew up in Tottenham’s face when he helped Sheffield Wednesday to First Division survival at Tottenham’s expense.  Won consecutive First Division titles with the Owls in 1929 and 1930, but a knee injury caused him to retire in 1932.  Went on to manage Clapton Orient, Charlton Athletic and Millwall.  Died in July 1966.
