31.08.1991 Southend United Youth shocked Spurs by taking an early lead in this South-East Counties League Division 1 match.   The Shrimpers went into a 20th minute lead, but Darren Caskey levelled before half-time.  Lee Hodges hit the net to give Spurs the advantage in the second period.  There was a five minute hold up after 80 minutes when the Southend keeper was injured and required treatment and while the visitors kept attacking, Tottenham missed quite a few chances before Hodges broke through in the 89th minute to wrap up a  3-1 win.

07.10.1989 Southend United Youth’s visit to Spurs ended in a 5-1 defeat South-East Counties Division 1.

A dominant Tottenham performance saw a number of goal-scoring chances created in the first half but only one was taken.  A 35th minute Kevin Smith long throw-in was headed home by Ollie Morah.

The second half started with Spurs being awarded two penalties soon after the restart, with Anthony Potts being brought down by the goalkeeper as he went around him and then Ollie Morah out-paced the defence, being fouled in the area before he could shoot.  Vic Hardwicke scored both spot-kicks to make it 3-0.  The Shrimpers got a penalty of their own after Stuart Nethercott committed a foul in the Spurs box, which was converted to narrow the score-line.  Ian Walker’s long kick upfield was won by Paul Price, who raced past the defence to touch the ball home and then following a good move Kevin Smith made it 5-1 with a deft dink over the diving keeper to score.

Teams :
Spurs –  Ian Walker, Stuart Nethercott (Warren Hackett 70), Steven Bence, Ian Hendon, David Tuttle, Vic Hardwicke, Lee Fulling, Kevin Smith, Ollie Morah, Anthony Potts (Paul Price 70), Scott-Aaron Houghton

09.09.1989 There was progress for Spurs Youth in the South-East Counties Cup First Round, with a 4-0 away win over Southend United Youth.

The first half was played out on a bumpy pitch and a gusty win made good football difficult and the teams turned around with a goal-less score-line.

A 30 yard volley by Vic Hardwicke opened the scoring and opened up the match, allowing Anthony Potts to thread a ball through the Southend defence to send Ollie Morah away to make it 2-0.  Potts scored when he got on the end of Ian Walker’s long clearance and Morah got his second goal, set up by Danny Tripp’s pass.

05.11.1983 Spurs Youth drew 1-1 on their visit to Southend United Youth in the South-East Counties Division 1.

Spurs were just the better side of the two but had to wait until halfway through the second half, when Steve Grenfell’s corner was headed in by Carl Hoddle.  Spurs lost Clive Robbins to a back injury and there were some good chances to score more goals, two of which fell to Richard Cooke, but a defensive lapse in the closing minutes allowed Southend to score an equaliser to salvage a point from the match.

03.01.1980 Spurs romped to a 5-1 away win against Southend United in a very strong wind.

Pitted against the wind in the first half, Spurs gave away a penalty early on, which was tucked away, but Chris Harvey and Mark Bowen soon made an opening for Terry Gibson to equalise.

Turning round to gain the advantage of the wind at 1-1, Tottenham controlled the second half and goals from Bowen, Pat Corbett, Gibson and Jimmy Bolton eased Spurs to a comfortable victory.

There was an uncomfortable moment for Tony Parks in the first half, when he took a goal-kick, which went outside the area, but the fierce wind blew it straight back past him into the net !!  Luckily, the referee correctly gave a corner to Southend.
