FA Cup Fourth Round Away Drew 0-0
Swindon started on the front foot in front of their home crowd in this Fourth Round FA Cup tie, but Spurs soon began working the Robin’s goalkeeper Jimmy Allan. He blocked Gerry Armstrong’s close-range effort before a corner dropped for Ricky Villa, who drew a good save from the keeper. Allan then had to tip shots from Terry Naylor and Glenn Hoddle over the bar before half-time, with the first half being a fairly even affair, with Spurs having the better chances.
The second period was dominated by Tottenham who went close with Armstrong’s header to Hoddle’s left wing cross, before Paul Miller also had a chance go just off target. Yorath forced Allan into a low save and Barry Daines had to make two crucial interventions, with a rush from goal to thwart a breakaway from Brian Williams and then, at the death, the Spurs keeper pushed a long shot from Kenny Stroud wide for a corner to take the game back to White Hart Lane for a replay.

FA Cup Third Round Away Lost 2-3
Tottenham were pushed out of the FA Cup by Southern League Swindon Town on a heavy, muddy pitch, but the home side adapted the better and despite goals from Billy Minter and Bobby Steel, the Robins were driven on by England forward Harold Fleming to record a notable victory.
The subsequent Tottenham programme noted, “We are not going to begrudge Swindon their victory for no one could help but admire the splendid way in which they rallied after they looked like a beaten team. In this winter of varied weather, we have played on some wretched pitches but never one quite as bad as that of Swindon’s last Saturday. It was ankle deep in mud in almost every part and water stood on it in pools. The ball played all manner of pranks. Sometimes when caught on the wind it travelled at a great speed but more often than not it stopped almost dead upon touching the surface. It was a most difficult matter to know how to gauge the passes.”
