The Lions roared off to a fast start to the match, passing the ball well and testing keeper Simon Brown with a long-range shot that he did very well to reach.\u00a0 It was the trigger Tottenham needed to get their game together and they went ahead in the first half when Danny Hill and Andy Turner fashioned a chance for Rory Allen that he converted.\u00a0 The three were involved again five minutes after the goal, but this opportunity wasn\u2019t tucked away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Into the second half, Spurs began to control the game a little more and Allen and Turner both had good chances, while the referee turned down claims for a penalty when Neale Fenn was brought down in the area.\u00a0 Millwall capitalise don a poor clearance to equalise against the run of play, but Tottenham\u2019s response brought a winning goal from the combination between Hill and Clemence, before the latter put a ball through for Allen to convert to make it 2-1.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Monday afternoon visit to the Den produced a 1-1 draw with Millwall Reserves.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a left footed drive from a tight angle by Vinny Samways that put Tottenham ahead, with David Howells going very close to adding a second goal when he chipped the keeper from 30 yards out, only to see his effort bounce off the crossbar.<\/span><\/p>\n

The home side scored and equaliser in the 40th minute and the second half saw Howells dismissed on the hour, but the Spurs team dug in to bring home a point.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new surroundings suited Tottenham with Rory Allen heading a chance just wide and Paul Mahorn’s volley going off-target, but when Jose Dominguez (in his first appearance in a Spurs shirt) was fouled on the edge of the area, the resulting free-kick was placed in the top corner of the net by Jamie Clapham to hand Spurs a 1-0 lead.\u00a0 Danny Hill’s tricky run set up Mahorn, another free-kick produced a chance for Allen, whose shot bounced off the goalpost and\u00a0<\/span>Dominguez came infield from the right to go close with a shot.<\/span><\/p>\n

With Millwall pressing for an equaliser, Spurs scored to make it 2-0 when Jason Dozzell and Clapham combined to tee up Danny Hill to find the net.\u00a0 It was almost three soon after, as Hill and Mahorn played a one-two and Hill’s effort was saved by the Lions keeper and Mahorn’s attempt from the rebound went close.\u00a0 With ten minutes to play, Millwall scored after Spurs allowed a man space at the far post, but Tottenham managed to see out the game for the victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Spurs Reserves capitalised on Millwall’s bad luck in losing a player to injury, going on to win and to take the Football Combination title in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within two minutes of this match kicking off, Millwall Reserves took the lead with an attack down their left that caught Spurs out, leaving Johnson to come in off the right to meet the cross and unmarked, put the ball away to make it 1-0.\u00a0 Tottenham worked back into the game and kept the score the same until half-time, with the Lions losing their centre-forward Shepherd to a twisted muscle that left them with ten men for the rest of the contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second half was a different kettle of fish.\u00a0 With the extra man, Spurs wasted no time in drawing level, as Roy Hollis headed Sid Castle\u2019s cross powerfully into the net and then, just two minutes later, the centre forward was released to run through and score from a tight angle.<\/span><\/p>\n

While more chances came Tottenham\u2019s way, they could not get past the Millwall keeper, but the two points secured the Football Combination championship for Spurs \u2013 pipping Portsmouth by a single point.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goals from a header from Gary Mabee from a corner and a second goal scored by Danny Clapton put Tottenham 2-0 ahead at the break, but immediately after the kick-off in the second half, Millwall rallied getting an early goal.\u00a0 Their equaliser came halfway through the second period and in the end, Spurs were grateful to Keith Osgood for a late drive from the edge of the box that flew in to secure the win.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A straightforward ball into the Millwall box caused more problems than it should have done, allowing Peter Johnson to score in the 10th minute, with Mike Flanagan intercepting a short goal-kick that went wrong in the 77th minute to slot home the second Spurs goal.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
