Monday 31st January 2022 On this day in Spurs history

It’s transfer deadline day and here’s what went on …

    • TRANSFERS IN : – Tottenham completed the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus with the Uruguayan midfielder signing a deal, subject to gaining international clearance and a work permit, that will run to 2026. The fee was 19 million Euros plus a possible 6 million Euros in add-ons.
      Also arriving from Juventus is Swedish international winger Dejan Kulusevski on an 18 month loan to buy deal. The 21 year old’s fee is to be paid at the rate of 3 million Euros this year, 7 million next season Euros and 35 million Euros to complete the purchase.
    • TRANSFERS OUT : – Everton agreed a permanent move for Dele Alli, with the fee being dependant on appearances and meeting certain criteria, but could rise to £40 million.
      A six-month loan move to Olympique Lyonnais by Tanguy Ndombele has been agreed with £1.18 million loan payment, with an option to buy at £54 million.  Bryan Gil has joined Valencia on loan until the end of the season.
      Villarreal have signed Giovani Lo Celso on loan until the end of the season and there is an option to buy him at the end of the loan.
    • RUMOURS : – Tottenham are believed to have made an enquiry about signing Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco, but the La Liga club did not entertain the attention for the Belgian international.
      While Spurs were interested in signing Barcelona’s French striker Ousmane Dembele, the salary demands were such that the club would not progress with the transfer.
      Apparently Valencia were interested in taking Dele Alli on loan. Spurs and Glasgow Celtic were rumoured to be interested in signing OGC Nice’s 19 year old former Manchester United winger Deji Sotona.
      Tottenham were rumoured to be willing to use Matt Doherty in a part-exchange deal for Brighton & Hove Albion’s right back Tariq Lamptey.
      Hull City, Sunderland, Portsmouth and Luton Town were vying to sign midfielder Harvey White on loan for the rest of this season, while Stoke City are interested in a summer move for the 20 year old.
      Tottenham are reported to have had two offers for right back Djed Spence rejected by Middlesbrough.
    • EX-SPURS: – Former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has signed a six month deal with Brentford.
      Reo Griffths
      , who left Spurs for Olympique Lyonnais four years ago, has signed for Doncaster Rovers on a two and a half year deal.
    • OTHER NEWS : – Neil Harris has been appointed as the new Gillingham manager … Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood might be spending a few years away from the club after a transfer to HMP Strangeways if he is found guilty of the rape and sexual assault charges which he may face. He could be spending a lot of that time a loan …


Sunday 30th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Everton could be ready to make a late bid for Dele Alli, although AC Milan are also interested in the midfielder.
      Olympique Lyonnais are now the favourites to take Tanguy Ndombele on loan back to his old club after Paris Saint Germain look to have withdrawn their interest in the midfielder, but one story reckoned Tottenham were offering the Frenchman to Juventus in a loan deal.
      Spurs may make a late move for out of favour Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
      Bryan Gil appears to be heading out to Valencia on a six month loan with the clubs set to agree terms.
      A late move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma is reported to be a deadline day target for Tottenham.
      Giovani Lo Celso does not want to join Olympique Lyonnais, but would prefer a move to Villarreal.
      After selling Luis Diaz to Liverpool, FC Porto are now rumoured to want Bryan Gil on loan from Tottenham. Not sure that such a move would be looked on favourably by the Spurs hierarchy.
      Middlesbrough’s right back Djed Spence, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, could be another player Spurs target for a late move.
    • INTERNATIONALS : – Pape Matar Sarr was an unused substitute for Senegal as they reached the AFCON semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea.
    • OTHER NEWS : – Everton have appointed Frank Lampost as their new manager … Sunderland have sacked manager Lee Johnson today …


Saturday 29th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Joe Rodon could be a target for Brighton & Hove Albion Tottenham if they sell Dan Burn to Newcash United, although Leeds United are reported to be looking to sign the centre-half on loan until the end of the season.
      Spurs are reported to be joining a few other Premier League clubs in pursuing Aston Villa’s Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, with an offer of £32 million made apparently.
      Lewes winger Ollie Tanner has failed to agree personal terms with Tottenham and the move now looks to be off.


Friday 28th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Tottenham are said to be interested in Atletico Madrid’s 29 year old striker Alvaro Morata, who is on loan at Juventus.
      Kristian Thorstvedt, the son of former Spurs goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt, who plays for Genk in Belgium is a £22 million target for Spurs reports claim.
      With Barcelona seemingly the destination for Tottenham transfer target Adama Traore, attention turns to a rumoured Spurs move for Barca’s French striker Ousmane Dembele. A hurdle in completing a deal might be the salary demands he made to sign a new deal with the Nou Camp club which are claimed to be £640,000 a week.
      News coming out today is that Tottenham have had an offer of £100,000 (plus a 10-20% sell-on condition) accepted for Lewes’ 19 year old winger Ollie Tanner. 
      Hellas Verona attacking midfielder Antonin Barak is rumoured to be in Tottenham’s sights with a fee of around £20.7 million quoted.
      Rumour has hit the internet that Spurs may make a loan move for Jesse Lingard this transfer window, even though other articles claim that the striker will not be allowed to join a Premier League club who may affect Manchester United’s league position.
      Having had to re-assess their transfer targets, Spurs are now in talks to sign Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski. It appears that Juventus want the player to go on loan until the end of the season for 1 million Euros and an obligatory purchase option in the summer with a fee of 30 million Euros set. Tottenham would apparently prefer the purchase of the Swede to be optional.
      Tottenham are said to be trying to sign Aston Villa transfer target – midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur of Juventus, who would cost 20 million Euros, as Juve are not looking to loan out the Uruguayan.
      Spanish club Levante are said to be very keen on buying Joe Rodon from Tottenham.
      Olympique Lyonnais are interested in taking Giovani Lo Celso to Ligue 1, but Villarreal are also keen on the Argentine midfielder.
    • INTERNATIONALS : – Giovani Lo Celso was a 72st minute substitute for Argentina in their World Cup qualifier early this morning that saw them win 2-1 away against Chile.
      Davinson Sanchez was on the end of a 0-1 defeat as Peru beat Colombia, with the Spurs defender playing all of the World Cup qualifying match.

Thursday 27th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • DEPARTURE : – Development midfielder Nile John has joined Charlton Athletic on loan until the end of the season
    • INTERNATIONALS : – Emerson Royal was sent off for a second yellow card after 20 minutes of Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – The latest Paris Saint Germain player to be offered as part of a swap deal for Tanguy Ndombele is said to be Portuguese defensive midfielder/central defender Danilo.
      Spurs are being linked with a move to sign Torino striker Andrea Belotti again today.
      Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel is a player Spurs are reported in Germany to be keeping an eye on during his current loan at AS Monaco.
      News today comes in the shape of a mover for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos … nothing new there, but now it is being said that Giovani Lo Celso could go the other way as part of the deal.
    • EX-SPURS : – Former striker Chris Armstrong has appeared in court after assaulting an employee in a Tesco store when he was told that he could not buy cigarettes. Armstrong may now face a jail sentence for punching and kicking the worker.


Wednesday 26th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • DEPARTURE : – Winger Jack Clarke has gone to Sunderland on loan until the end of the season.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Tottenham are expected to make an offer that Hull City can’t refuse for 20 year old midfielder Keane Lewis-Potter, believed to be around £14 million with a loan back for the rest of the season.
      Valencia and Sevilla are two potential destinations for Tanguy Ndombele to leave Spurs on loan according to today’s rumours, with a claim that Valencia have agreed terms for a six month loan for the Frenchman, but he is not keen to move there.
      Apparently Spurs have rejected the offer of taking Leandro Paredes in exchange for Tanguy Ndombele joining Paris Saint Germain. Thank goodness that Ander Herrera has turned down a move to the THS for his “love for Manchester United” !
    • FIXTURE CHANGES : – The latest matches chosen for live TV coverage until the end of March have been announced and the following Spurs games have been selected and will now be played on the following days at the stated times …
      Everton (home) – Monday 7th March 2022, kick off 20.00 (Sky Sports)
      Manchester United (away) – Saturday 12th March 2022, kick off 17.30 (Sky Sports)
      West Ham United London (home) – Sunday 20th March 2022, kick off 14.00 (unless either club is involved in FA Cup Sixth Round).
    • COVID-19 : – The Premier League have changed the rules on postponement of matches, with clubs having to prove that they have four positive cases before a postponement will be considered.


Tuesday 25th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Depending what you read, either Dele Alli is not wanted by Paris Saint Germain or he will be part of a double swap deal involving Tanguy Ndombele and him heading to France, while Julian Draxler and Georginio Wijnaldum arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
      Everton have expressed an interest in signing Dele Alli, but the player is said to be waiting to see who their new manager will be before committing himself to a move to Goodison Park. Meanwhile, South Coast Big Club are interested in taking him on loan according to their local press, while the Daily Mail add Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as Borussia Dortmund to the listed of clubs who are watching the Spurs midfielder’s situation.
      Winger Jack Clarke is said to be set for a medical with Sunderland with a view to a loan move to the Stadium of Light.
      Although Tottenham have had an initial bid of £38 million (with add-ons taking the final cost to £46 million) turned down by FC Porto for Colombian winger Luis Diaz, the clubs are reported on Sky Sports to be in talks about him being signed by Spurs.
      Rumours linking Spurs with a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Portuguese international midfielder Joao Palhinha have cropped up again.
    • OTHER NEWS : – The new regime in charge at Hull City have sacked manager Grant McCann … Watford have appointed Roy Hodgson as their new manager until the end of the season …


Monday 24th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – The hot off the press Paris Saint Germain-Spurs story today is that midfielders Georginio Wijnaldum and Julian Draxler are open to be part of the swap deal that brings them to the English capital and takes Tanguy Ndombele to the French capital.
      Sunderland are reported to be favourites to sign Jack Clarke on loan for the rest of the season.
      Newcash United have allegedly begun talks about taking Dele Alli on loan. Everton are also said to be interested in signing the Tottenham midfielder.
      New links to a potential signing from Fiorentina have surfaced today, with Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat the player mentioned.
      Ligue 1 Angers striker Mohamed-Ali Cho is a player that Tottenham are said to have opened discussions with aimed at bringing the former Everton player to N17. The Frenchman only turned 18 last week, but is said to be priced at £16.5 million.
      It is rumoured that Spurs have spoken to Juventus and the agent of Weston McKennie about the transfer of the 23 year old USA midfielder, who the Serie A club want £29 million for.
      With Spurs rumoured to be willing to sell Giovani Lo Celso, Sevilla have been named as a potential suitor, which could lead to Tottenham using him as a bartering tool in an exchange deal.
      Some links are appearing today claiming that Under-23 defender Marcel Lavinier could be leaving to join Charlton Athletic on loan for the remainder of the season.
    • UNDER-23s : – Our Under-23s lost for the first time in nine league matches tonight, going down 0-1 at Everton.
    • FAN BAN : – An Everton fan has been given a 3-year exclusion ban from football grounds across the country for chanting Anti-Semitic abuse at Tottenham fans during the match between the two sides at Goodison Park on 7th November last year.
    • FANS ARRESTED : – The London Evening Standard is reporting that two Spurs fans have been arrested with regard to things being thrown at a Chelsea player during Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge.
    • OTHER NEWS : – Watford have sacked their manager Claudio Ranieri today …


Sunday 23rd January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • FIRST TEAM : – Tottenham lost 0-2 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. Match Report.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – The latest Paris Saint Germain player rumoured to be included in a swap deal that takes Tanguy Ndombele to the French capital is former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
      Under-18 midfielder Dante Cassanova is reported to have played a match for Derby County Under-18s as part of a trial with the Championship side.
      Tottenham are said to have agreed a fee for Adama Traore with Wolverhampton Wanderers, thought to be £20 million with £2.25 million in add-ons.
      AC Milan are expected to talk to Tottenham on Monday about a move for Japhet Tanganga.
      Peterborough United have reportedly turned down a £200,000 offer from Tottenham for 19 year old defender Benjamin Mensah.
      Apparently, AC Milan had agreed a fee for Spurs to sign Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie, but the player has turned down the move.
      A fee is reported to have been agreed with Lewes for Tottenham to sign winger Ollie Tanner.

Saturday 22nd January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Valencia are the latest club to be keen to take Bryan Gil on loan.
      It is rumoured that Dele Alli is willing to move to Newcash United as his future at Tottenham is said to be “bleak”.
      The Sun carry a story that Tottenham are interested in signing Toby Savin – a 20 year old goalkeeper – from Accrington Stanley.


Friday 21st January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TEAM NEWS : – Ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Chelsea on Sunday, Eric Dier will return to the squad although Cristian Romero is still a couple of weeks away from being ready for selection and Heung-Min Son is still out injured. There are another couple of un-named players who have problems after the team beat Leicester on Wednesday, but they will be assessed tomorrow as to their ability to play on Sunday.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Today’s Paris Saint Germain rumour is that midfielder Leandro Paredes could be part of a possible swap for Tanguy Ndombele.
      OGC Nice of Ligue 1 are hoping to take Bryan Gil on loan according to the French press.
      Newcash United are believed to have opened talks with Tottenham over the potential signing of Dele Alli, either on a loan or a permanent deal.
    • FA YOUTH CUP : – Tottenham won their Fourth Round FA Youth Cup tie at Hotspur Way against West Bromwich Albion 6-1 this afternoon. The Spurs goals that secured an away tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Fifth Round were scored by Jaden Williams 2, Charlie Sayers, Alfie Devine and Thomas Bloxham 2.


Thursday 20th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • CONTRACT : – It is being reported that Hugo Lloris has agreed a new contract with Tottenham that will run until 2024.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Wolverhampton Wanderers have rejected a bid of £15 million from Spurs for winger Adama Troare.
      Paris Saint Germain are reported to be in talks with Tottenham about a loan deal for Tanguy Ndombele, with one story claiming that the Ligue 1 club willing to pay all of his £200,000 a week salary and there is a swap mooted, with striker Mauro Icardi coming to Tottenham.
      Rumours about a club vying with Newcash United for Sevilla central defender Diego Carlos are hinting that it may be Tottenham who have matched the North-East club’s £30 million offer.
      A player long linked with Tottenham is today linked with an interest from N17. AS Roma’s French midfielder Jordan Veretout is said to be a player Spurs may be signing, as he is not a regular in Jose Mourinho’s side.
      While Spurs are one of a few clubs interested in Hull City’s top scorer – 20 year old Keane Lewis-Potter – the new owner of the Tigers has said that they do not intend to cash in on the youngster in the near future, as he in under contract until 2023.
      Tottenham are said to be keen on RB Salzburg’s 18 year old striker Benjamin Sesko from Slovenia.
      Aberdeen’s 18 year old right back Calvin Ramsay is being watched by Spurs and a few other Premier League clubs.

    • FIRST TEAM : – Tottenham beat Leicester City 3-2 at the King Power Stadium tonight. Match Report.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Tottenham have reportedly made contact with Lille about the availability of their Canadian striker Jonathan David. The 22 year old could cost £30 million.
      Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon has been linked with interest from Tottenham.
    • OTHER NEWS : – Manager Hayden Mullins has been sacked by Colchester United.


Tuesday 18th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • DEPARTURE : – Development midfielder Dilan Markanday has signed for Blackburn Rovers for an initial fee of £500,000 which could rise to £1 million. A large sell-on clause has been included in the deal according to some reports.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Tottenham are one of a number of clubs interested in Middlesbrough right back Djed Spence, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.
      It is reported that Tanguy Ndombele has rejected a loan move to SSC Napoli.
      AC Milan are reported to be very keen on taking Japhet Tanganga on loan until the end of the season.
    • INTERNATIONALS : – Pape Matar Sarr was an unused substitute as Senegal drew 0-0 with Malawi in the African Cup of Nations.


Monday 17th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • DEPARTURES : – QPR have signed Under-23s midfielder Rafferty Pedder after his contract with Spurs was mutually cancelled.
      As expected, striker Kion Etete has gone out on loan to Cheltenham Town until the end of the season.
    • TRANSFER RUMOUR : – Glasgow Celtic’s 15 year old left back Mitchel Frame is reported to have been offered a three year professional contract by Spurs, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
    • UNDER-23s : – Jack Clarke‘s goal gave Spurs a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at White Hart Lane in the Premier League 2 tonight. A scuffle at the end of the match saw Tobi Omole and Kallum Cesay get red cards along with one of the Blackburn players.
    • AWARD : – Erik Lamela‘s ‘rabona’ goal against Woolwich Wanderers last season has won the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal in world football in 2021.

    • TRANSFER RUMOUR : – News emerges today that Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona are keen on signing Tanguy Ndombele with a price tag of 30 million Euros quoted.
    • OTHER NEWS : – Rafael Benitez has been sacked as manager of Everton after seven months …


Saturday 15th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • FIRST TEAM : – Woolwich Wanderers have been granted a postponement of tomorrow’s Premier League match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
    • UNDER-18s : – The visit of the Spurs Under-18s to South Coast Big Club saw Tottenham win 2-1 with goals from Thomas Bloxham and Charlie Sayers.
    • TRANSFER RUMOUR : – Tottenham are one of a number of clubs who are watching 19 year old Lewes striker Ollie Tanner, who was released by Woolwich Wanderers.


Friday 14th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TEAM NEWS : – Eric Dier is not ready to return to the team against Woolwich Wanderers on Sunday after suffering a muscle injury, with Cristian Romero and Heung-Min Son also out injured, while there is one potential case of Covid-19 being monitored by the club. Steven Bergwijn could be ready to return to the bench, as he is not yet 100% match fit. However, the South London club have requested that the Premier League postpone the game because they have so many players suspended that they cannot field a team.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Dilan Markanday is being lined up for a £500,000 deal to join Blackburn Rovers on a three and a half year deal, with the fee potentially rising to £1 million.
      Juventus striker Paulo Dybala looks set to leave the Serie A club on a free transfer in the summer with his contract expiring then, with Barcelona and Spurs interested in the Argentine international.
      In an attempt to persuade Wolverhampton Wanderers to part with Adama Traore, Spurs are rumoured to be ready to offer Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga, Jack Clarke or Ryan Sessegnon as part of the deal.
      Fulham’s 19 year old midfielder Fabio Carvalho is the subject of links of a move by Liverpool, South Coast Big Club, West Ham United London and Spurs as talks over a new contract at Craven Cottage stall.
      It is reported that 22 scouts attended Manchester United Under-23s’ 1-1 draw with Spurs last week, with the Tottenham trio of Dilan Markanday, Harvey White and Brooklyn Lyons-Foster their main focus.

Thursday 13th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • FIRST TEAM : – Woolwich Wanderers are trying to get their game on Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium postponed.
    • FA CUP : – Tottenham’s Fourth Round FA Cup tie at home to Brighton & Hove Albion has been scheduled for live TV coverage on ITV 4 and the ITV Hub to be played on Saturday February kicking off at 20.00.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Allegedly, Tottenham have made an enquiry about 19 year old Peterborough United defender Benjamin Mensah.
      Spurs are being linked again with a move for German international central defender Matthias Ginter of Borussia Monchengladbach.
      Tanguy Ndombele is attracting interest from Juventus and SSC Napoli, but other opinions consider that he will be happy to stay at Tottenham.
      Juventus’ Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo is believed to have been offered to Spurs.
      Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Dilan Markanday.
    • STADIUM : – The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will stage a Rugby Union Premiership match when Saracens play Bristol Bears on Saturday 26th March.
    • EX-SPURS : – Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has left Glasgow Rangers after three years with the Scottish club.


Wednesday 12th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • FIRST TEAM : – Tottenham lost 0-1 to Chelsea in the Second Leg of the League Cup semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight, exiting the competition 0-3 on aggregate. Match Report.


Tuesday 11th January 2022 On this day in Spurs history
    • TEAM NEWS : – Spurs will be without Eric Dier, Steven Bergwijn, Cristian Romero and Heung-Min Son for tomorrow’s League Cup semi-final second leg tie, as none are fully recovered from their injuries. Son will be re-assessed after the international break (January 24th to February 2nd) after picking up a leg muscle problem.
    • TRANSFER RUMOURS : – Apparently, Atletico Madrid are keen on buying Giovani Lo Celso from Spurs.
      Stories today claim that Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain are interested in signing Tanguy Ndombele on loan or permanently, but the amount they are willing to pay is tempered by the French midfielder’s wages of £200,000 a week. Olympique Lyonnais, AS Roma, Newcash United and AC Milan are also said to be interested in Tottenham’s record signing.
      Tottenham are reported to have held talks with Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard about a free transfer in the summer when his contract expires.
      Newcash United and West Ham United London’s interest in 19 year old striker Hugo Ekitike has been joined by Tottenham Hotspur. The Reims teenager is expected to cost £25 million.
      Tottenham’s link to buy Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca is gaining strength according to today’s rumours.
      24 year old Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes is supposedly a £40 million transfer target for Spurs, with Olympique Lyonnais having a number of other clubs, including Woolwich Wanderers, keen on the midfielder.
    • FA YOUTH CUP : – Tottenham’s FA Youth Cup Fourth Round tie at home to West Bromwich Albion will be played at Hotspur Way on Friday 21st January, with kick off at 13.00.
    • UNDER-18s : – As a result of the FA Youth Cup fixture, the home game against Aston Villa on 22nd January had now been re-scheduled for Saturday 26th March at Hotspur Way, with the kick off at 12.00.
      Striker Jamie Donley has signed his first professional contract with the club.
